The Founder's Odyssey

THE STORY

The story of a vision born on the banks of the Ogooué, bought back at high cost to honor the land of the Okandais.

1983: The Whisper of the Ogooué

"Everything starts with a fishing trip, a parenthèse between brothers that would change the course of a life."

Accompanied by my little brother Luc Ndouckou, I was gliding on the waters of the Ogooué when my eyes met a carcass of a colonial building, like a stone ghost devoured by time. But beyond these ruins, it was the very soul of Gabon that revealed itself to me. The rounded mountains, draped in eternal green, seemed to greet me. I did not yet know that I was treading the sacred soil of my Okandais ancestors, but my heart had already recognized it.
« Luc, look at this landscape! Look how beautiful it is! »

1984: The Memory of Shadows

"I returned with Fatou, driven by an obsession that only wonder can nourish."

Under the benevolent gaze of these emerald peaks, I had a certainty: if God rested on the 7th day, then His home was here. Fatou, guardian of memory, then opened the doors to a darker past: these lands were the last breath of thousands of slaves. Protected by my clan, the Mocoto, this site was not just a plot of land, it was a sanctuary of resilience.
« I dream of seeing here a refuge where humanity would come to contemplate what God has done most beautiful. »

1988: The Flight and the Silence

"The vision became stone, then the stone became dust."

Albert Yangari, Minister of Tourism, was the first to believe in this gentle madness. Under the impetus of the State, the first hotel complex saw the light of day in 1988. But failure was not long in striking. Management collapsed, the bungalows were given over to bats, and the jungle began to reclaim its rights over what was no more than one more ruin.
« Everything was nothing but silence and invasion for many years. »

Phase 04

1994 - 2000: The Reconquest

"Selling one's property to buy back one's dreams: such was the price of loyalty."

In 1994, I engaged in a solitary battle to tear this site from oblivion. It took 6 years of sacrifices so that in the year 2000, the dream finally returned to me. On the advice of my daughter Evelyne, this place officially became the LOPE HOTEL. Each stone laid was a response to the call of my ancestors.
« Thus was reborn this dream, named after the name that will resonate for future generations. »

« Building on this land was not just building a hotel, it was giving back to my ancestors the beauty they bequeathed to us. We do not own nature, we are its humble servants. »
